About the Captain

Captain “Dorado Jim" grew up fishing the Atlantic waters from Long Island and New York. Passionate about fishing from a young age, he moved to the west coast of Florida in the 90s, after falling in love with the area's incredible wildlife and fantastic fishing. Always passionate about the outdoors, one of his first jobs was in sales and marketing of outdoor sporting goods, and he earned a Bachelors of Science in Biology and Chemistry, majoring in wildlife biology. Dorado Jim has been a USCG licensed captain, (100 Ton Master MMC Credentialed) since 2001, and he spends over 100 days a year on the water, guiding other people to fish and sharing his passion and knowledge of the water. He is often a guest speaker at local and national events and on Tampa Radio, and his writing has been featured in many publications. While Captain Dorado Jim has a history of being a very successful tournament fisherman, nowadays he likes to concentrate on teaching other people the joys of being out on the water.
