Designed for the child who enjoys
fishing and being on the water, this program is the first of its
kind in the Tampa-Sarasota. The purpose of the Fishing School is
to expose children to experiences which will broaden their
understanding in three key areas: fishing, boating, and
environmental conservation. Under the direction of Captain
Savaglio outstanding staff, including other local talented
Captains. The following topics will be
covered: Equipment, bait and lure selection, rod building techniques,
rigging, casting instruction, cast netting, casting skills,
tournament strategies, presentation of baits, fish fighting
skills, fish handling, environmental and conservation issues,
knot tying, catch and release, boating safety, maintenance and
life on the water.
Two Day Format
Day 1.
Fishing ethics and courtesies, safety laws and limits, baits, live, artificial,
rigging, cast netting.
Day 2.
Recap followed by tackle, spinning vs casting, lines,
knots and leaders, FWC officer, fishing trip followed by a picnic.
Note:
Due to the
popularity of this program, please consider that this program
was designed for the child who loves fishing rather than
the child who thinks they might like fishing.

The classroom portion
of the course will be taught on Day one and the on water instruction portion of
the school will be conducted on day 2. The area is known for some of the finest in flats, back bay and skinny fishing for snook,
tarpon, trout, redfish and other shallow water fishing for

| Fishing excursion will include a U.S. Coast Guard certified
Captain who is licensed and insured. Weather and tide permitting
of course. Fishing trips, fishing instruction from local area experts, equipment
provided by Inshore Slam Summer Programs. |

| Program Director, Captain Jim Savaglio. Mr.
Savaglio is a full time Captain, hunting guide and Biologist with
more than 20 years working with youths in areas of coaching and
education. He holds a U. S. C. G. License,
and has been fishing the bay area waters for nearly 20 years. He is an
outstanding outdoorsman and has been involved in youth athletics
since graduating from college in 1985. |
